VIDEO: Rockhampton day care centre "senselessly" vandalised

PARENTS are without a day care to send their children to this week after the North Rockhampton Early Learning centre was "senselessly" vandalised over the new year long weekend.

Centre director Wendy Norman said it was heartbreaking to find the centre completely trashed inside - with paint, glue and glitter covering almost every surface and the administration room trashed with files and paperwork covering the floor.

Fish tanks were filled with sunscreen and paint, killing the fish the children kept as pets.

Only about a dozen fish were able to be saved when staff came into the centre at 6.10am on Monday morning.

Ms Norman said the worst-hit room was completely trashed.

"It has got paint literally from floor to ceiling," she said.

"It has got paint, it has got juice, it has got dead fish on the floors... every surface of this room has been coated in paint.

"There's not much left in this room that can be salvaged unfortunately."

With multiple skip bins to be filled with ruined books, toys and furniture, Ms Norman said there were no words to describe the offenders.

"It really is a very pointless, senseless, random act of destruction,' she said.

The centre hopes to re-open on Monday, but Ms Norman said they will re-assess on Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police immediately.
