Alan loses cancer battle
THE Morning Bulletin's Sports Editor, Alan Kennedy, died Thursday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He filed his final sport report from his hospital bed in Tuesday's edition, fittingly it was about football.
Even though illness slowed him down in a physical sense over the past year, his passion for writing sport stories, often with fearless and controversial opinion, never slackened.
He was also determined to keep working, as it was a job he loved.
"How are you feeling Al?" I would ask from time to time.
"Oh fantastic, never better,'' would be the response.
In his six years at The Morning Bulletin, Al became a familiar sight at many sporting events and venues around the region and, by his generous nature, he made many friends.
We will publish a more detailed story about his life and career in a future edition.
He was a one off.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with his partner Di and his family today.
