Average woman’s waist is 89.6cm - Bureau of Statistics

ACCORDING to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average Australian woman has a waist measurement of 89.6cm.

Based on Ice Design's size guide, the average woman wouldn't fit anything in their store with their highest waist management 86cm.

That measurement is classified as size 14 or extra large by Ice Design.

A 2013 article by Cosmopolitan found recommended retail sizes, which are only used as a guide, haven't been updated since the late 1960s.

They also referred to a 2003 study by brand Rip Curl which found the average Australian aged 16 to 24 was a traditional size 16, which is size 14 in most modern brands.
