Former ALP factional chief says dump Byrne and Mulherin

ROCKHAMPTON MP Bill Byrne has refused to get his hackles up over a story printed in Saturday's Courier Mail where a former Labor powerbroker compared the current Labor parliamentary team to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and labelled him as Dopey.

Construction union boss and former Labor factional chief David Hanna told The Courier-Mail Labor wasn't serious about reform and was protecting underperforming MPs.

He insisted Mr Byrne should be dumped along with Deputy State Leader Tim Mulherin, whom he dubbed Sleepy.

But Mr Byrne was not deterred yesterday, saying Mr Hanna was an embittered man who was irrelevant to the party and "having a spray".

"I think it was Margaret Thatcher who said not to confuse the political opposition with the enemy," he said.

"This is all sticks and stones stuff… it's name calling and something I'm immune to."

Mr Byrne said he hadn't spoken to Mr Hanna at any point in the past two years and wouldn't even recognise him in the street.

"He's a prime example of someone who clearly is not getting his own way, whatever that is.

"He has chosen to use this forum in the media, probably because no one is else is prepared to listen to him."
