Rum fan samples latest Port Barrel
YOU might say that Jason Fagg likes a drop of Bundy.
In fact there are 22 unopened special edition bottles of it in his display cabinet.
And to those he has just added a couple of very special bottles of Bundaberg's latest top-of-the-range offering, Port Barrel.
Jason, a financial controller who lives in Norman Gardens, realised every rum-lover's dream when he was chosen as one of just 30 people across the country to sample and review the new product ahead of its national release.
"I was excited, I don't mind saying.
"I have an unopened bottle of every Bundaberg Rum released since 2008," said Jason, who is such a connoisseur he makes ice from rainwater so there are no chemicals to tarnish the taste of his favourite tipple.
"That's how much I love it."
So what did he make of the new version, which has been aged in port barrels and will sell for $80 a bottle when it goes on sale in a couple of weeks?
"The port softens the kick so it is very smooth. On the first sip I got the distinctive Bundy flavour immediately but there is a slight hint of port. It's definitely one to have on its own on a special occasion such as the birth of a child or on Christmas Day.
"Overall I rated it nine out of 10. I think fans of the original are really going to love it."
Jason was chosen for his special duty after completing an online survey and was sent a small sample.
Port Barrel is the second limited release in the master distillers' collection of premium rums.
