Busby Marou celebrate Farewell Fitzroy in old hometown

IT'S Farewell Fitzroy, but not forever.

Busby Marou are taking over Rockhampton today as they promote the release of their second album Farewell Fitzroy, and the boys couldn't be happier to be kicking off their national tour in their home town.

Band members Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou grew up in Rockhampton, and went from recording their first album in Yeppoon to their second album in Nashville, USA.

Despite their nationwide success Tom said when they recorded their first album they didn't expect anything.

"We did it (our first album) on our own, we had no idea … we had no contacts and we just sort of went in," he said.

"Thankfully Jeremy is so bloody talented he can play everything."

Tom also said he was enjoying having new material to play for fans.

"A lot of people say you get second album syndrome, but we never had that … the first album was an accident, it came out and people liked it," Tom said with a laugh.

"But then when we came back from overseas something took over in my head where I didn't want it to be good, I wanted it to be unbelievable."

Busby Marou is known for Tom's soulful voice and Jeremy's freakish instrumental abilities, but Tom said fans could expect a transition to a more "cheeky" album.

"The first album was everything about here, the people and places, and all the heartbreaks from all the Rocky girls," he said.

"This time it's about sort of leaving the shores, or leaving the town.

"(But) not letting go, because we still want to have some associations with the Fitzroy."

And their unique sound can be put down to their "chalk and cheese" style of music.

"What we thought was a disadvantage at the start, us having a completely different taste in music, has turned out to be an advantage," he said.

"It's a bit of folk, a bit of rock, a bit of country, cool, coastal.

"We're going to be flat strap now … (but) we're having so much more fun than we've ever had before."
