Byrne seeks hospital helipad
MEMBER for Rockhampton Bill Byrne spoke yesterday in the Queensland Parliament about the pressing need for an emergency helicopter landing area at the city's hospital.
Mr Byrne said later he was pleased Ted Malone, the LNP member for Mirani, had made recent media comments which showed he thought similarly to Mr Byrne.
"Look it's just unfortunate that the LNP's CQ three amigos during the last election were unwilling to say at the time what is being said today," Mr Byrne said.
He said he took Mr Malone's lobbying for funding for the helipad as an entree for the Newman government to deliver on this in this September's Budget.
He called on Keppel MP Bruce Young to support the project.
Mr Malone said in parliament: "Firstly, I congratulate the member for Rockhampton for reading into the public record my great press release … highlighting the great need for a helicopter pad in the hospital area.
"Perhaps if the former government had not wasted $400 million on a payroll scheme, maybe we now would be building a helicopter pad at the hospital."
