QUEENSLAND Corrective Services today suspended a custodial officer in light of allegations that suggest an inappropriate relationship with a prisoner at the Capricornia Correctional Centre.

The matter has been referred to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General Ethical Standards Unit for investigation.

A statement issued by Corrective Services says it takes any alleged breach of its officer code of conduct most seriously.

"In keeping with its commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, QCS has undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct," the statement says.

"This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

"As the incident is under investigation, QCS is unable to make any further comment on the matter."
