THE stage is set for a memorable final season for Broncos front-row legend Petero Civoniceva.

Civoniceva, a veteran of 297 NRL games - 225 with Brisbane - today announced he would retire at the end of the season.

If he stayed injury free, the 36-year-old would play his 300th game in round 12 at Suncorp Stadium against Newcastle and his old coach Wayne Bennett.

Then in round 26, Civoniceva would play his final regular season match against his former team Penrith, also at Suncorp.

"It is something that has been hanging over my head for a long time so now is the right time to make the call," he said.
