Classic cars are favourite hobby
ANNETTE Ferguson and husband Merv are a classic example of a couple who genuinely appreciate their cars.
The self-described "hoons" own six registered cars. Four are 1960s classics and two are 1990s models.
With a knack for backyard mechanics and a passionate belief system for "fixing cars myself", Merv said there were a lot more cars on the road in Rockhampton.
Latest census statistics show 38,536 Rockhampton dwellings own cars. Of this total, almost 14,000 dwellings own two motor vehicles, more than 4500 own three and 2318 own four vehicles or more.
Merv and Annette's portfolio of classics includes a 1961 XK Falcon wagon, a 1964 XM Falcon coupe, a 1964 EH Holden sedan and a 1966 Ford Mustang coupe.
Merv said genuine car enthusiasts spent money and time on their car if it needed to be fixed.
"It is much cheaper anyway to fix it yourself than have it seen by mechanics."
