FROM eating fast food for every meal almost every day, Courtney Gibbons has done a 180 on her food habits, after discovering clean eating.
The 19-year-old said for 12 months she would have takeaway food for breakfast, lunch and dinner until she decided to try dieting.
"As I got stricter and stricter on myself I've now gotten to the point where I don't even crave bad foods," Courtney said yesterday.
"I tried hundreds of diets to lose weight and I guess I developed a bad relationship with food; I wasn't happy with food."
One of many to try the clean eating lifestyle, Courtney said changing her diet and recently becoming a vegan was the definition of clean eating for her.
"I've lost almost 20kg since starting clean eating but I still eat six times a day which is snacking healthily on fruit and vegetables, so I'm never really hungry or full and I have so much more energy," she said.
"You can exercise as much as you want but if you're still eating bad foods it's not going to make a difference.
Courtney said her new lifestyle was also easier on the bank balance.
"People may think it costs more to eat fresh food," she said.
"But the average fast food meal is around $15, and now I only pay around $100 on fresh produce per week."
WHAT IS CLEAN EATING?
- Eating mostly whole, natural or organic foods and seek to eliminate or minimise processed foods.
- Eat five to six small meals throughout the day.
