First payments made to flood victims
MONEY from the Queensland Floods Appeal 2013 has already started flowing to people badly affected by the floods caused by Cyclone Oswald.
Independent Distribution Committee chair Terry Mackenroth said the first payments were made on Monday, just three working days after application forms were made available.
"Our focus is on getting help to those that need it most as quickly as possible and with these payments going out today we are beginning to deliver on that promise," Mr Mackenroth said.
"As we start giving out money we are painfully aware that we need more money to come in.
"To date we have brought in $7.8 million through donations and pledges and frankly we are going to need a lot more to help those who have been hit the hardest by this massive flood."
Application forms for those seeking assistance are available from local recovery centres.
They can also be downloaded from the Queensland Floods Appeal 2013 website at queenslandfloodsappeal2013.org.au or by calling 1800 901 933.
Non-means tested payments on offer for eligible claimants are $2000 per adult and $1000 per dependent child (under 18).
Mr Mackenroth said applicants had until March 18 to lodge their applications.
