BULL RIDING: Capella's Guy Ford has won his first PBR title at the Mackay event in front of what he considers his home crowd.

"It feels awesome, it's the first PBR event I've had and to do it in front of Mackay and these great fans is awesome,” he said.

It's his first PBR since taking a break to play rugby league in the Brisbane Broncos under-20s squad. The same squad as current stars Josh McGuire, Ben Hunt and Andrew McCullough.

He chose the fearless Whodat to ride in the thrilling championships round that turned into a re-ride, despite Ford already having the win under his belt.

"I got on him at a rodeo in Clermont and he threw me off, I wanted to get one back on him but it didn't quite work out,” he said.

"You have to ride against that bull and it doesn't matter whether you come first or last you need to ride that bull.”

The bull certainly didn't make it easy for him.

"I'm a bit dirty I didn't get to ride that last bull but I still got the win all the same,” Ford said.

When asked what goes through his head in those final moments before busting out of the chute, Ford said his mind goes blank and lets his subconscious take over.

"You do your preparation during the week and if you try and think on these bulls, they're a lot quicker than we are, so you have to subconsciously ride them.
