Foreshore is still on radar
WITH a tight council budget on her mind, Mayor Margaret Strelow yesterday said she was open to private funding for the development of the Yeppoon foreshore.
Cr Strelow said she was conscious of her election promise to deliver a development master plan for the foreshore within the first 12 months of being elected.
The plan would then be implemented in stages.
But Cr Strelow maintained a strong opposition to borrowing money to fund the project.
Residents have shown their enthusiasm, putting many ideas for the project to the man heading up the development, Deputy Mayor Tony Williams, along with the mayor and other councillors.
The foreshore development spans between Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club and the Keppel Bay Sailing Club on Anzac Pde.
Cr Strelow said she would love to see a development similar to Townsville's Strand in Yeppoon as soon as possible, but parking and traffic would have to considered before anything else.
But with a limited budget Cr Strelow said council needed to think seriously about all of the suggestions.
Cr Strelow remained tight-lipped on whether she could maintain another election promise - to keep rates as close to CPI as possible.
The council budget will be out this Thursday.
