FORMER Rocky girl Gabby Waller is a self-confessed risk taker.

Gabby, 20, says she walked away from 'an excellent high-paying job' to pursue her passion for fashion.

Already she is turning heads in Sydney and Brisbane, where she is set to launch her own boutique, STR8 UP.

"I've always loved fashion, so I randomly decided to start a fashion blog one day," she said.

"It got to a point that I was in an excellent high-paying job, but to me that's not worth anything if you are not actually passionate about what you are doing.

"I decided to walk away from a corporate world to concentrate wholeheartedly on fashion."

The former Cathedral College student, who shares her work between Sydney and Brisbane, is clearly an independent thinker.

"I like to take risks with what I wear and how I wear it mainly because it drives me away from being similar to everyone else," she said.

Her approach is opening doors.

"Never in a million years did I think I would be sitting in the same row as Vogue Fashion Director Christine Centenera," she said.

"I was also photographed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Sydney and I appeared on the Elle Australia website, which is one of my great achievements."

While she might be seen more often these days laying down her towel at Bondi Beach than Yeppoon, she said the Rocky region would always be her home.

"I'm such a little social butterfly ... it's just not the same heading to Bondi and not having that small town vibe around you," she said.

"I miss running into familiar faces when I'm out and about."

Tips for men

Gabby's tips:

It's all about the comfort, keeping it simple will emphasize that.

Invest in a nice pair of shoes; they are the key to any outfit.

The streets are the real runways with street bloggers flooding social media. Inspiration is only a click away.

Tips for women

Gabby's tips:

Knowing your personal style is key. Get a feel for the style that you feel most comfortable in and use that to your advantage.

Avoid following trends. Trends come and go, but basics are here forever, so invest in some good quality basic pieces.

Rule of thumb: Don't always wear clothes the way they were designed to be worn.
