Kardashian bag earns 30-year-old woman a $400 fine

AFTER buying a round of groceries from the supermarket, Rockhampton's Rachel Lee Backo decided to ditch her plastic shopping bags for top of the range.

While out on a shopping trip with a friend at the Stockland Rockhampton shopping centre, an intoxicated Backo stole a Kardashian handbag worth more than $130.

Backo, 30, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of stealing and one count of trespassing after her misdemeanour last month.

The court heard that on July 16 Backo and her friend were outside Strandbags in Stockland Rockhampton.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Shaun Janes said Backo put down her shopping bags and removed a black handbag from a rack.

She walked away from the store.

Security and police officers stopped her moments later.

She returned the handbag.

Later that day, she and a couple of her friends entered the Depot Hill State School grounds for no particular reason.

When police officers attended the school just after 5pm on that day, they found Backo and her friends on a bench.

She told the officers she simply thought the school was a great place to hang out.

Her defence lawyer Shayne Studdert said his client couldn't remember stealing the handbag and was addressing her problems with alcohol.

She was fined $400.
