A MAN, 26, will appear in court today after he allegedly assaulted a woman outside the Travelodge on Thursday morning.

Police believe a 29-year-old woman was walking along Victoria Parade in Rockhampton when a man confronted her, then sexually assaulted her.

Police allege the woman tried to photograph her apparent attacker when he has then sexually sexually assaulted her again. He then threw he to the ground and kicked her.

A witness is understood to have run into the business to ask staff for help after the woman was assaulted.

The man was taken into custody near the Great Western Hotel a short time later.

Queensland Ambulance Service said the woman had been taken to Rockhampton Hospital.

The man is facing sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm charges.
