BREAKING 2PM: A 51-year-old Rockhampton man was airlifted by the RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter in a serious condition this morning following an incident at Alton Downs.

The man was using a tractor to pull another piece of machinery from a bog when the towing hitch broke loose from the bogged vehicle.

The towing hitch then smashed through the read window of the tractor and struck the patient in the back, leaving him unconscious.

Suspected injuries sustained from the accident include a broken pelvis, multiple facial and head wounds and internal damage.

The RACQ Capricorn Rescue chopper transported the man to Rockhampton Hospital, where he was rushed straight into surgery.
