Man sues for $300k after bitten on bum by Troll

A ROCKHAMPTON man is suing the State of Queensland for more than $300,000, claiming he was bitten on the behind by a "violent and unpredictable" police dog named Troll.

Aron Wilson Phipps claims the dog was wrongfully set upon him by a dog squad police officer on October 20, 2012.

According to documents before the Rockhampton District Court, Mr Phipps suffered severe lacerations to his buttocks and arm as a result of the attack.

The 20-year-old claims he was walking to a Kawana residence along a dry creek bed about 9.30pm when he was approached by police and told to stop.

The court claim states he obeyed and placed his hands above his head.

Despite this, it is alleged the police officer deployed Troll, who grabbed and bit at Mr Phipps.

Mr Phipps then fell to the ground in pain.

He was arrested and transported to the Rockhampton watch house, before he was eventually taken to hospital.

It is claimed Troll had been previously assessed as a dog that showed nerves under pressure and exhibited temperament issues.

It is therefore alleged the dog was a hazard and should have been removed from active service or retrained.

Mr Phipps is claiming $309,380.13 in damages for past and future economic loss.

The Queensland Police Service and Mr Phipps' solicitor declined to comment as the matter is still before the court.
