COMPARED to the raunch comedies of today the original American Pie almost looks tame.

Love it or hate it there is no denying American Pie has made cultural history.

In 1999 Paul Weitz's film raised, or depending on your opinion lowered the bar of films exploiting male adolescent sexual panic for laughs and drama.

Cue that pie scene as well as hilarious scenes involving a very awkward Eugene Levy giving his son sexual pep talks and the film became somewhat of a classic.

Phrases from the movie filtered through to our vernacular and still remain 13 years later.

The sequels that followed were increasingly desperate, sleazy and in the end the only remaining cast members were the pie and Jim's dad.

But American Reunion sees a return to form and is a reunion in the true sense of the word.

All the old favorites are back, albeit much older and a little worse for wear.

Even Milf Guys #1 and #2, the Sherninator and Nadia make a reappearance which nicely provides the finishing touch to the pie.

The characters we first met as horny teenagers are now men in their 30's back for a school reunion.

Jim and Michelle are married with a kid; Oz is beefcake sports anchorman, Kevin is married and knee-deep in Gossip Girl and reality TV; Finch is an adventurous world traveler and Stifler, well he's still Stifler.

The script is lively and extremely well executed.

It's almost fan-fiction, extremely respectful of the source material and taking it exactly where fans would want.

It's a fun and raunchy romp filled with the expected tasteless but hilarious gags and peppered with nudity, drunkenness and sexual shenanigans.

It's a shame to see Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) given a backseat as a wife and mum but she does her best with the material.

Levy as Jim's dad and Jennifer Coolidge as Stifler's mum garner the most laughs and the final few scenes are just the icing on the cake or pastry on the pie if you will.

It may have been a few years since servings but Reunion is the perfect last slice of pie.
