MPs say meatworks bosses should take pay cut

MANAGEMENT at JBS Dinmore should give up part of their salary, along with meatworkers at the plant, say Ipswich MPs Shayne Neumann and Jim Madden.

The politicians made the call with workers taking a 25% pay cut each time a shift is cut at the plant.

"I'd be asking there should be a mutual burden of responsibility; the workers are taking a disproportionate level of responsibility," Mr Neumann, federal MP for Blair, said.

"I will be putting that to the company."

His call was echoed by Ipswich West MP Jim Madden, who said there should be a "comparable pay cut" for management.

Dropped shifts should also be replaced, the MPs said, expressing their concern about the impacts on the broader Ipswich community.

"In the end, the buck stops with the company, they have a workforce that is loyal and hardworking, they have a responsibility to them," Mr Neumann said.

Mr Madden said he would ask Employment Minister Grace Grace and Agriculture Minister Leanne Donaldson to get involved in the long-running dispute.

"I will speak to Grace Grace about the JBS Enterprise Bargaining Agreement," he said.

"I will meet with the Minister for Agriculture to see what we can do."

Mr Madden was also surprised at JBS saying there would be no cattle available in January.

"For JBS to say there will be no cattle in January, that is of particular concern.

"It is a great concern if meatworks like JBS are cutting down on purchases; we spent $77.9 million in the last budget to get rural industry back on track."

Mr Madden will donate to the Goodna Street Life Community Pantry Appeal.
