New Cape York plan begins
A NEW regional plan for Cape York, the third of its kind in the state, will deliver "go and no-go zones" for the mining industry.
The first meetings of the State's regional planning committees met in Dalby in south-west Queensland and Central Queensland last week.
In Queensland Parliament on Tuesday morning, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said all three plans would address the skirmishes between industrial and agricultural interests.
"They will identify, map and protect valuable agricultural land," Mr Seeney said.
"They will provide for resource industry development zones identifying where mining can and cannot be conducted.
He said the identification of "go" and "no-go" zones would likely be contentious.
"There will be a wide range of opinions and outcomes that will not please everybody.
"But in the interests of the state and all Queenslanders, we must develop plans that provide for ongoing economic growth."
Mr Seeney told Parliament these committees would rely on input from members of Parliament, industry, the community and economic development groups.
