THE Queensland Premier has called on families to consider boycotting Origin Energy following a price hike.
Campbell Newman said Origin had announced increases to unregulated electricity tariff 11 and urged Queensland families to "vote with their feet".
"I'm disgusted that Origin has let Queenslanders down by these outrageous price increases," Mr Newman said.
"I'll be looking to change my family's provider and I hope fellow Queenslanders will follow suit.
"LNP MPs will provide information packs to help customers to move away from Origin."
Mr Newman, who announced a freeze on tariff 11 increases for 12 months since coming into office, even went as far to provide contact details of other electricity providers on a press release issued on Friday.
He said the government was very disappointed that Origin clearly broke with the former practice of capping the price of unregulated supply at the price set by the Queensland Competition Authority.
The State Government is investigating dobbing in Origin to the Australian Competition and Consumer Authority for misleading conduct and banning break fees for families wanting to switch providers.
