'Obnoxious grubs' ruin retreat
IT was meant to be an opportunity for Melissa Chandler her two friends and a baby to take a break and get away for a while.
But an estimated 15 car loads of young louts ruined their night at the Stoney Creek camping ground last Tuesday, where the three friends had planned a peaceful retreat.
"They (the youths) turned up about 7.30pm and I think they'd been kicked out from Five Rocks by the park rangers up there," Ms Chandler said.
She and her two other mates, Angela Cowling and Cindy Ferricks, said the group's behaviour was appalling.
The women said the louts smashed glass bottles and light fireworks which left them fearing for their safety.
"They were urinating around our camp site and we had to park our cars around our camp site to feel safe," Ms Ferricks said.
"They were real pigs leaving the amenities like that."
The women said they called police numerous times, until they eventually showed up around 10.15pm.
"I went over to them and said we've got a baby here and asked if they could tone it down a bit, and then the guy I was speaking to walked away and the music went up," Ms Chandler said.
"They were just being obnoxious little grubs."
Ms Ferricks said after police left the louts yelled 'there's no one to protect you now'".
Ms Chandler said police advised her and her friends to move on, which she was outraged by as she and her friends paid to camp there and the group had not.
"I have always been an avid camper but I will never again try to camp at Stony Creek," Ms Chandler said.
