WHETHER you laughed through Mrs Doubtfire, got lost in the adventure of Jumanji or were inspired by Patch Adams, Robin Williams knew how to capture an audience.

The 63-year-old died yesterday after reportedly taking his own life in his home in California.

Williams had a history of struggling with depression, and had dealt with alcohol addiction in the past. It's been reported that he went back into rehab in the last few weeks.

The famous actor had a long list of on-screen hits in his career and was admired by many.

For Rockhampton actor Brad Villiers, the loss of one of his idols is tragic.

"It was absolutely devastating to hear," Brad (pictured) said.

"Just the gamut of his ability was amazing; it's such a tragic loss.

"I loved all his movies from Mrs Doubtfire to Good Will Hunting.

"My favourite movie was Good Morning, Vietnam, it was a funny movie but a lot of realness and sadness in it, it summed up his life a lot."

Brad said that acting was a tough business to be in with plenty of pressures, even when you've made it in Hollywood.

"When you saw Robin Williams, he was always so happy, but you find that those people off camera are the ones that need the most help," he said.

"And if you are feeling that way, you need to ask for help.

"We lost a funny man."
