Man arrested after bomb threats
2.15pm: A ROCKHAMPTON man has been taken into custody following a dramatic pursuit in Rockhampton after he allegedly threatened to blow up four businesses if they didn't hand over cash.
Detective Sergeant Nick Williams said the man allegedly entered four Rockhampton shops yesterday morning and threatened to detonate a bomb if cash wasn't handed over.
Police said the 44-year-old was wanted in relation to the alleged theft of a Queensland Rail vehicle from a worksite earlier this morning.
About 10am the man entered Woody's Foodtore in Wandal and allegedly threatened staff with a bomb.
Police alleged he was unsuccessful in his attempts to extort money from a total of four businesses.
Det Sgt Williams said the man then drove the stolen vehicle to River St in Wandal where a foot chase ensued.
11.30am: Rockhampton police have taken a man into custody following a footchase related to an alleged crime spree in the city.
Police caught the fugitive in River St, Wandal after a pursuit along the river bank.
He is believed to be wanted in relation to the alleged theft of a QR vehicle from a worksite this morning, threats made to a person and an incident at a service station in Allenstown.
The vehicle has been recovered.
BREAKING, 9.10am: Rockhampton police are searching for a white 2006 Holden Rodeo Dual cab, Qld rego 965JKD.
In a statement police said the vehicle last seen in Stanley Street, Rockhampton a short time ago.
"Police hold concerns for the safety of the male driver," the statement said.
Please advise members of the public who may see the vehicle to immediately call Triple Zero (000) and to not approach the vehicle or the driver.
