State schools worse off under LNP: Rockhampton MP

ROCKHAMPTON MP Bill Byrne has slammed the LNP Government for funding cuts he said let down state school students.

Mr Byrne said Queensland students were falling behind in terms of resources and technology.

"In 2013-14 the Newman government spent $165 less per primary school pupil than the previous Labor administration spent in its last year in office in 2011-12," he said.

"For secondary students the fall in expenditure is $203 compared with Labor's spending two years previously."

Mr Byrne also claimed students with disabilities were being neglected by the Newman government.

He said the annual spend on students with a disability had dropped from $27,720 per student under Labor in 2011-12 to $25,950 in 2013-14.

Acting Minister for Education, Training and Employment Ian Walker said the LNP Government had increased school spending by 10% since its election.

"We've spent more than $4.4 million to revitalise Rockhampton schools and fix the maintenance backlog left behind by the former Labor government," Mr Walker said.
