Father meets son for first time
THE Rockhampton Airport is usually a place where loved ones are reunited, but yesterday it was much more than that for Ron Richards.
It was the place where he met his 36-year-old son, Steve Seath, for the first time.
Ron, who featured in The Morning Bulletin on April 4, met Steve's mother while working in Wollongong but returned to Rockhampton before his son was born.
While he tried to contact Steve several times, fate kept them apart - until yesterday.
Armed with presents, Ron and his family waited anxiously for the arrival of Steve, his wife Trish and their three children who travelled up from Broulee in New South Wales for the momentous occasion.
And when they finally stepped off the plane there wasn't a dry eye to be found.
"It was a stressful flight," said Steve, after embracing his father for the first time.
"I'm still shaking.
"Words can't explain how I feel."
Ron also struggled to put his emotions into words.
"It just feels great - now we can go home and start catching up," he said.
The family will be celebrating with a big barbecue tonight.
