Thiess to build parts of new Caval Ridge mine

Zavalnyuk Sergey

THIESS has won the $220 million deal to build parts of the new Caval Ridge mine near Moranbah, west of Mackay.

The deal includes the construction of a coal handling plant for about $125 million.

Rail loops and roads will make up the remaining $95 million.

In an announcement made to the Australian Stock Exchange, Thiess did not say when construction was expected to begin.

The Caval Ridge mine from BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance is expected to be built before the end of 2013.

First coal exports are due to follow in 2014.
