What goes up must come down
DID you ever wonder how many man-hours went into setting up the Rockhampton Showgrounds for Beef Australia 2012?
Just ask the man in charge of pulling it all down again - Michael McDouall. With a total of about 4500 panels, including 3500 fence panels and 300 gates, he said the chore had been no mean feat.
"I've been out there since Easter Monday," Mr McDouall said.
"I'm really over the showgrounds," he said with a laugh.
Mr McDouall said the pulling down and packing up was going well.
"What went up in three weeks has basically come down in one week," he said.
Mr McDouall said he had had six local men working on average 10 hours a day.
And it wasn't just panels and gates the guys were moving.
"The panels sat on about 3000 cubic metres of sawdust and 1000 cubic metres of granite and sand," Mr McDouall said.
Beef Australia chairman Geoff Murphy said a lot of the showgrounds had to be handed back over early this week and it was hoped the dismantling and packing up would be complete by tomorrow.
