9.20am: THE poll about the region's best hot chips closes today at noon.

Samos Fish Bar is still leading the race with 31 % of the vote.

July 24, 9.25am: THERE are only a few days left to vote for the region's best hot chips and it looks like Samos Fish Bar will win the poll.

Samos has 156 votes out of 482 lodged at 9.20am, compared to 105 submitted for Leannes on Berserker.

Svensens in Yeppoon and Doblos Seafood are vying for equal third place with 38 votes each.

The poll closes Friday at noon.

July 8, 2.30pm: THEY are not necessarily good for our waistlines or cholesterol levels, but sometimes you just can't go past ordering a scoop or two.

Hot chips have been a long time favourite as a side dish, or simply on their own.

They came in all shapes and sizes and everyone likes different toppings.

There are skinny chips, fat chips, curly chips, tornado fries

You can put tomato sauce (ketchup), barbecue sauce, salt, vinegar, chicken salt, sweet chilli sauce, sour cream, cheese melted, summer sauce from Red Rooster, honey mustard (homemade), aioli and a classic - gravy.

Some like to put cheese, bacon and barbecue sauce on top of their servings.

And according to some, there are people who like to dump their hot chips in soft serve icecream, or put sugar on top.

Others like to make hot chip sandwiches.

But the biggest question that comes to mind is, who makes the best hot chips in the region?

The Bulletin is running a poll online, from suggestions made by readers, about who makes the best hot chips in the region.

The poll closes on July 26 at noon.

As of 2.20pm yesterday, there were 377 votes submitted with Samos Fish Bar leading the way with 33% of the vote (125 votes) and Leannes on Berserker coming second with 19% of the votes (75 votes).

JUNE 28: THE quest for Rockhampton's best hot chips maker continues with Samos Fish Bar still leading the way in the online poll.

As of 3pm today, Samos had 112 votes out of 315 while Leannes on Berseker was coming in second with 60 votes.

JUNE 26: HOT chips are a hot topic at the moment with over 370 views on this story, over 200 votes on the poll and many comments online and on Facebook.

As of 1.50pm, Samos Fish Bar was leading the race of who makes the best hot chips in Rockhampton with 77 votes out of 213.

Leannes on Berserker was coming in second with 43 votes.

The poll closes on July 26 at noon.

Meanwhile, a post about the poll on Facebook has led to some criticism of The Bulletin by some readers.

Here are some of the comments they made:

Brad Slatter - ohh cool! even the morning bulletin promotes obesity.. thats awesome!

Pete Nicolau - How about a story on where to get the healthiest meal in Rocky, or is that not "fun" enough for you?

Mike O'Connor - What obesity problem? Bully - very irresponsible.

But not all readers agreed with them. In fact, many hit back at the negative posts.

Trish Kelly - Everything in moderation, Brad!

Delia Davis - It's doesn't matter how many KFC's and McDonalds are in any area... No one is ORDERING anyone to go eat it!! I'm sure we're all big enough and ugly enough to decide for ourselves! ... Anyway Fishco are pretty good! :)

Victoria Paull - How about we answer the question. The bully has just asked where do we think the best chips are not ordering you to eat them, why does everything always have to come with stupid complaints, can't say or ask anything these days!!

Maddie Harris - I forgot what a bunch of whingers Rocky has and gee everyone remember everything you said on here when u put junk food or alcohol in ur body cause not everyone is totally healthy cause even natural foods have sugar or fat and I know cause I was one of those junk food addicts that people above are criticising being 160kgs and I made the choice to change my life but mine was it was convenient to buy them foods before cause healthy eating was too dear but now my children and I changed our ways but it is hard to break and it don't matter how many takeaways there is no one forces u to go there it is ur choice. But now I made the change to all natural and organic I don't have the cravings and have lost over 40kilos just from no sugar. U can't criticise people when it is a hard struggle and what should be happening is healthy food made cheaper cause that is why they are able to put so many fast food places up because they are cheaper to buy and more convenient to get. Make it a equal balance so all is available to everyone.

Cherith Weis - Russell Street Take-away does scrumptious chips and they are as cheap as chips! 1/2 the price of some in town. Daph Zimmerle runs the take-away and gives good value. No I am not promoting obesity - I might have chips once every 3 sometimes 4 weeks! Lighten up you people. As The Bully says - it's a bit of fun!

Heather Quarry - I would rather be who I am and enjoy fish and chips (the very few times I have them) than be a health fanatic that can't even answer a simple question from a Newspaper / Internet site without making it a put down to anybody that they feel is unhealthy because of answering one question that should have been a simple light hearted response call. *Rant Over*

Rhonda Muldoon - Dempsey Street Take away, you can choose battered or non battered chips. Not all obesity is caused by eating junk food. A friend of mine who always ate healthily was obese because of a medical condition basically didn't have any metabolism, that friend ended up having gastric stapling done as that was the only way she was going to lose the weight. I have a problem with weight myself and did lose quite a bit up until almost losing my son in an accident almost two years ago then having to deal with other medical things for myself does not help with weight loss. My medical issues are not to do with my weight as I had the same problem when I was a skinny 15 year old. Until you've walked in someone else's shoes do not judge them unless you know the story behind them. I am doing the best I can, walking almost everyday and walk anywhere from 3-10k, some days I cannot exercise because of my medical reasons as I can be in a fair bit of pain. Have fun, The Morning Bulletin finding out the favourite place to buy chips.

3PM Tuesday: ON cold days, there's nothing better than a hot meat pie, or a sausage roll, or simply a bucket of hot chips with your choice of sauce.

And while none of those are good for our waistlines, we can't go past our favourite chips from our favourite shop in town.

On Friday afternoon, The Bulletin asked readers via Facebook where the best place in town was to get hot chips.

Here are some of the comments from the Facebook post:

Steve Hendra - Elphinstone st has the best battered chips & burgers

Chloe Robin - Leannes for burger n chips but main st snack bar for chips n gravy without a doubt!!!

Tiffinie Denice Winston - Doblos seafood we are a family of six do $20 we can get a main meal of chips each and a 2litre bottle if drink and they are so yum

Lojac Corry - the best place ever for Chips and gravy was at Mamas in the old Kmart ...but it is gone now
:(....

Here is a poll created from your responses. It closes on July 26 at Noon.

No more businesses can be added to this poll, but you can leave a comment below about your favourite place to get hot chips from and why.
