Woman charged with helping O’Connor escape to face court

A WOMAN will face court today for allegedly helping Kevin Andrew O'Connor make his escape from the Capricornia Correctional Centre.

Police are still hunting for the 33-year-old after he escaped on Saturday. It's believed he was last seen playing tennis in the facility and his tennis racquet was found near a vegie patch in the vicinity of Etna Ck.

It's believed O'Connor escaped around 2.30pm with the help of his 23-year-old wife.

It's understood he was in her company in a silver Mitsubishi Outlander for some time.

O'Connor was serving 11 months 13 days for several offences including drug possession and producing drugs.

It's believed the incident happened in the low security section of the prison.

Yesterday a police spokesperson told The Bulletin a 23-year-old woman had been arrested and was helping police with their inquiries.

It is unknown at this stage if that woman is O'Connor's wife. However, the woman has been charged with aiding persons to escape lawful custody.

She will face Emerald Magistrates Court this morning.

O'Connor is described as Caucasian, 197cm tall, of a solid build and wearing a prisoner uniform.

The circumstance surrounding the incident will be referred to the Office of Chief Inspector for investigation.
