Zach misses out on number one spot - but it's just the start

THE X Factor final is just the start for Rockhampton lad Zach Russell.

Despite his boy band, The Collective, not winning last night's grand final, Zach's band mates and judges agreed that the five-piece had a bright future.

"These boys are going to be international stars," said mentor Ronan Keating.

"I believe in them more than anything.

"They're the first group to get into the final. A lot of people said the show was fixed, but I think Australia sees now that it's not. The boys are going home. It's a terrible shame.

"I'm very proud of the guys," Keating said.

The group is rumoured to be the yet-to-be announced opening act for Keating and Brian McFadden on their upcoming tour.

Judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who did not have a singer in the grand final, reminded the boys that One Direction did not win their season of The X Factor UK, and that making the show's final was a great "stepping stone".

And it seems the group already has a large fan base as girls crowded at a Westfield shopping centre in Sydney.

The short-odds favourite Samantha Jade won the X Factor crown over runner-up Jason Owen.

The Collective was put together by the X Factor judges, made up of males aged 17-22 who auditioned as solo acts for the show.

The guys are from Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales.
