Regional burial costs fall

FUNERAL costs will be slashed by up to $300 at regional cemeteries outside Rockhampton and Yeppoon.

Councillors yesterday agreed to scrap a policy to charge the same price at all cemeteries in the Rockhampton Regional Council area. The cost of a plot at Mount Morgan, Bajool, Cawarral and other smaller cemeteries will fall to $400.

Plots at Gracemere will be $500 while at Emu Park they will cost $600. But at Yeppoon and Rockhampton cemeteries the charge will remain $700.

Councillors were told the new charges better reflected the cost of land and level of services and amenities at the various burial grounds within the region.
