Boxers gird up for battle

FIVE fighters with five big challenges: that is what faces Ruben Fraser's group of young kick boxers as they head to Brisbane this weekend.

Fraser's Hellrazor Fight Club is thriving and has a number of very talented young fighters within its ranks; none more than Mitch Schukking.

The Rockhampton fighter is in tremendous form, winning his last four fights, each time by a knock-out.

Surely he must be fancied to make it five in a row as he is up against 16-year-old Jake Moulden, who must be on a hiding-to-nothing when he enters the ring with Schukking.

Not so says Fraser, in fact, he believes Moulden, who trains at the Powerhouse Gym at Brisbane, will provide Schukking with his toughest contest yet.

“He's had six fights for six wins and also has a boxing background,” Fraser said.

Schukking has, as always, trained well and looks comfortable in the 64 kilogram group.

Wes Mainhardt has only had one win from his four fights and therefore will be battling the odds when he faces Ash Van der Veldt in the 70kg division.

Trained by Grant Seli, the Brisbane fighter has a three win one loss record going into the bout.

“It's going to be a tough day at the office for Wes,” Fraser admitted.

Nobody can doubt the potential of Joel Elliot, but unfortunately that talent has yet to produce wins.

It won't be any easier for Elliot this weekend as he fights Matt Lowry who sports a three win from four fights record.

“It is only a matter of time (to win), but Joel has shown great resolve,” Fraser said.

Jaras Vea Vea fights a boxer of similar experience in Aly Kaddour in the 75kg division.

It is the first fight for Kaddour and therefore Vea Vea does hold a slight advantage in experience having fought recently as a part of a tag team.

Fraser said Vea Vea was impressive in that tag match.

“I think he should do well as he's a tough boy,” he said.

Fraser admits he knows very little of Kerrod Lawton's fight in the 70kg weight group, but he is not too worried as his fighter is looking good.

“He's had one fight and won on a knock-out,” he said.

“He is coming along well as he's a natural athlete.'

The fights will be held at the Corporate Gym which is run by well-known fighters “Shaggy” King and Bruce “the Preacher” McPhee.

The next rumble in Rockhampton is scheduled for October 10.
