POLICE are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman at Gladstone's Reef Hotel on Friday, before robbing her at knife-point.

The search began yesterday after the woman, aged in her mid-40s, was attacked by the man in her motel room.

Police rushed to the scene after the incident, stopping to search males in the area in their hunt for the woman's attacker.

Acting Detective Sergeant Wayne Butcher said police were seeking a Caucasian man aged in his mid-to-late 20s.

“After he assaulted the female he ran down Goondoon Street and turned right into Lord Street.

“We are asking for anyone who saw this offender in the area, or anything suspicious, to contact police,” he said.

The man had visited the woman in her motel room and sexually assaulted her before robbing her of her cash with a small knife.

The attacker was wearing light-coloured trousers, a white T-shirt and was carrying a red jacket, the detective said.

Police believed the man still had the knife.

The manager of the Reef Hotel did not wish to comment on the incident when approached yesterday.
