EMILY Bleney and Harry Wacker had the right idea to keep cool yesterday as Rockhampton's late winter temperature soared well beyond the 30-degree mark.

These young Emu Park lifesavers had the opportunity of learning their craft from the current world board paddling champion, Daniel Carruthers.

The Gold Coaster was on the Capricorn Coast helping the surf lifesavers prepare for the upcoming season.

A weather bureau spokesman said temperature hit 33 degrees, seven above August's monthly average maximum.

And the hot conditions are tipped to stay until Wednesday.
