Rockhampton bushfire

LOWER than average rainfall and hot, dry weather has proved a deadly combination in Rockhampton this spring.

Exhausted firefighters have entered their 25th consecutive day of battling fires in central Queensland today and there is is no immediate rain reprieve on the horizon.

Rockhampton residents have praised the efforts of firefighters who have saved hundreds of homes in the past week from a fire raging through the Mt Archer National Park.

The worst hit ares include Frenchville, Norman Gardens, Lakes Creek, New Zealand Gully and Koongal. One home has been lost in Koongal, but as the gallery of aerial images shows, firefighters have succesfully saved many homes by just metres.
