Graham Demeny stands outside Fitzroy River Water’s Glenmore treatment plant yesterday after resigning from his job.
AFTER 15 years loyal service with Fitzroy River Water, Graham Demeny says his career is down the gurgler because of fluoride and an uncompromising council.
Graham, who was responsible for making Rockhampton’s drinking water safe, resigned earlier this month after his request for a transfer within Rockhampton Regional Council was refused.
He said he questioned the safety of adding fluoride to the city’s water supply and ethically wasn’t prepared to do the job.
From today fluoride will be added to drinking water in Rockhampton, The Caves and Gracemere.
Protesters, including councillor Glenda Mather, will rally against the situation this morning outside City Hall.
Yesterday Cr Mather said Graham’s situation was a tragedy.
“I consider staff, especially long-term staff, as the organisation’s most valuable asset and we need to treat them like liquid gold,” Cr Mather said.
“I feel very sad for this family, especially at Christmas time, as clearly the breadwinner has ended a career because he stood by principles.
“I don’t know what I can do, but will certainly be making some internal enquiries to see if a solution can be found.”
Graham, who finished up with council on December 7, said he was one of five people who added the chemicals to the water supply.
“For the last 15 years I have worked at the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant operating the chemical dosing of water taken from the Fitzroy River for the city’s consumption,” Graham said.
“Until now all processes adopted have made the water either clean or safe to consume.
“Fluoride addition does neither and questionably compromises the safety aspect.
“With this ethical, plus a few moral issues, I realised my present position was untenable.”
He said he approached council about a transfer.
“Not wishing to make waves and expecting respect on my stance on fluoride and for the years of loyal service I requested redeployment,” Graham said.
“Without negotiation I was told to leave if I wasn’t prepared to dose the city water supply with fluoride, for there would be no redeployment.”
He said his was just one of many examples of the “consequences of supercilious policies and procedures adopted by council since amalgamation which are drastically reducing morale in the council workforce”.
A council spokeswoman confirmed Mr Demeny had worked for the council before resigning, however said it was not council’s policy to comment on staffing matters.

It is inspiring to find a man of such integrity as Mr. Graham Demeny. I wish him well in his future endeavors. Around the world most people have learned that putting fluoride in our drinking water is a hoax and is dangerous to health. Politicians, acting like dictators, refuse to offer a choice by referendum because in 80% of elections, people reject fluoridation. One has to follow the money trail to understand why.
When the fertilitzer companies, and others, clean their smokestacks, they bag the waste fluoride chemical, ( Hydrofluorosilicic Acid), which contains lead, mercury, arsenic, etc. and sell it to communities to add to our water systems. The Government tries to convince us that it does not harm us if it is diluted enough. Who benefits-------follow the money!
Those promoting fluoridation simply refuse to read the current research showing it is ineffective and dangerous to health. Go to (www.fluoridealert.org) and read several scientific articles.
Read the letter from Dr. Hardy Limeback ( DDS, PhD Biochemistry) --- Head, Preventive Dentistry, University of Toronto entitled "Why I am now officially opposed to adding fluoride to drinking water"
He was the principal research advisor to the Canadian Dental Asociation for over 10 years in promoting fluoridation. His letter is an apology to other dentists and the public.
Dr. Limeback includes over 140 Research studies, including:
Increased risk of bone cancer -- 13 studies
Lead, arsenic, radium contaminants causing toxic water -- 10 studies
Link with fluoride and other cancer -- 12
Fluoride causes birth defects -- 5
Fluoride affects the immune systems -- 12
Fluoride is neurotoxic (brain, nerves, lowering IQ) -- 11
Etc.
Also see the petition signed by over 2600 professionals opposing fluoridation.

Folks, google "fluoride poison dartmouth doctor", for one more viewpoint on the subject, and continue researching. Fluoride is a main ingredient in rat poison. It was used by Hitler to keep the concentration camp prisoners docile.
Don't make your kids drink this stuff. Hire Demeny back, show him your appreciation, and find some way of disciplining those who fired the man rather than take notice that he was acting out of principle.

Bless you, Graham Demeny! And a pox on the Council Members responsible for his predicament!!!
BTW, if Council thinks that fluoride is so good, why not up the dosage and take it themselves? Or do they drink bottled water... Either way, nobody wants the KoolAid.

It's not all Council's doing, they have been directed by QLD Government, so it is unfair to blame Council for the fluoride. However, as a Council employee myself and worked with Grahame in the same department, I am disappointed that they refused to re-deploy him to another department. Comes back to the CEO wanting to cut staff numbers and not replacing staff that leave. Grahame's position will more then likely not be filled and the other 4 staff will be required to absorb his workload

What a joke these people are Have a look at the bad state of teeth in Rockhampton and the rest of Qld Fluoride has been in other state water for years and they are not dropping dead from poison and enjoy much healthier teeth. Speak to people who know like your local dentist not "researching" websites that give so called expert advise. I wonder how many of the above readers are happy for there kds to drink coke.

I feel we live in a Dictator ship . Is there no politican how stands up for us ? They all fill there pockets an

Go for it Rocky, after your brains have been numbed from a few years of fluoride ingestion you won't have to worry about your teeth. Get yourselves a good filter or a rain water tank & brush your teeth every day. It has all the fluoride you will ever need. Don't let Anna Bligh drug you daily. I bet she doesn't drink it.

Thank you so much Graham for your principled and courageous stand. You are a real hero. It makes me happy to know that there are indeed intelligent and ethical people around and that not everyone has been successfully brainwashed by so much government / corporate propaganda that they have now become ovis aries.
Because fluoride is a halogen, it competes with iodine (a halogen that the body needs for good health) in the human body for the receptor sites, which are abundant in the thyroid, breast and uterus tissue in women and prostate tissue in men. For this reason fluoride has been implicated by researches to cause iodine deficiency leading to thyroid disorders and breast and prostate diseases, all of which are common in western countries with fluoridated water. It seems an odd coincidence that after years of drinking and showering in fluoridated water ( I lived in Perth for most of my life) I personally ended up with an underactive thyroid, uterine fibroids and my husband who is in his 40's has prostate problems. One of the worst results of iodine deficiency is cretinism. All jokes aside, the research on the fluoride / iodine connection demonstrates how people exposed to fluoride can actually become cretins. Perhaps fluoridation is indeed part of the deliberate dumbing down agenda that is being implemented around the world through ever increasingly stupid government policies. After all, its easier to fleece the stupid sheeple via increased taxation, currency debasement and bankster bailouts with taxpayer funds, if they are too stupid to even understand that they are being fleeced let alone how its being done.(Dont forget sheeple that the planet will be destroyed from all that CO2 pollution real soon unless you all open up your wallets and give generously to the globalist carbon trading derivatives ponzi scheme. Yes, it really is "The Age of Stupid" !)
Dont expect the to hear about the fluoride/ iodine deficiency health research from the government or your doctor / big pharma representative any time soon. The sickness industry and their greasy hand government puppets are not going to give up their billion (or is it trillion? ) dollar racket by curing your lucrative diseases any time soon. Here's a tip sheeple. Do your own research and take responsibility for your own health. Oh, and dont drink the (fluoridated) water!

Its a very sick and sad situation when a person is relieved of their livelihood because they dont agree with the council. Good on you Mr Demeny, I salute you for your stance. All people who disagree with being forced to drink poisoned water should refuse to pay any water rates until the situation is corrected. We fought long and hard to get clean safe water and now we are going to be poisoned slowly.

"Fluoride is a naturally occurring compound found in water, plants, rocks, soil, air and most foods;
The fluoride used for water fluoridation can be extracted at the same time as other minerals, such as phosphates from ground rocks. The co-production of natural fluoride is an efficient use of our natural resources;
Water fluoridation combats tooth decay in three ways: it helps make teeth more decay resistant, helps get rid of early decay before it becomes permanent and helps stop bacteria in the mouth producing acids."
I wouldn't care if flouride came down from heaven like manna and cured cancer and healed blindness. The fact of the matter is that people want to drink WATER not FLOURIDE. If flouride is so beneficial, why doesn't the government send packets of it out to people who want it so they can spike their own water. You wanna spike your water with chemicals? Fine, just don't force it on the rest of us.

Here in the US our government is fond of flouridating water too, and we have executive agencies that like to issue complaints to everyone that they're not drinking enough of it when they buy bottled water. It's funny how our drug stores carry such an array of products that are supposedly good for you, but try and find the flouride isle. Nobody wants the stuff, and for good reason. Now, how absurd on top of that is the fact that most of the water piped to your house goes to things that have nothing to do with drinking? Laundry, dishes, flushing your toilet, showering and washing your car... The government is too intent on bypassing the will of the people on this matter in defiance of all logic and reason, when it would be much more logical for those who desire this wonder-drug to buy their own doses of it to add to their own glass of water. If the stuff's harmless, why does it kill aquarium fish?? Do you think all the flouride that doesn't get absorbed into your tooth enamel is going to have any environmental consequences after it goes down the drain? Just might.

Mr. Demeny I am buoyed by your integrity. The council should be ashamed of themselves. When I went to the dentist recently and he saw all the damage I had from ingesting far too much fluoride as a child he asked me if I had thyroid and kidney problems as well and I do. Need I say more!

In fact QLD has no need whatever for fluoride in the water. Look at the most recent National oral Health Surveys, you see that child tooth decay rates are within 2 or 3 percent of any other state.
Furthermore, over the last 50 years QLD tooth decay rates have dropped to about 15 percent of what they were in the 40s, 50s or 60s, all with virtually NO water fluoridation till this year.
But the main issue is that Mr Demeny was absolutely correct in his stand. Water supply should never be for the purposse of medicating the population, not matter how much some health department boffins, or nutty political leaders love the idea of drip feeding people through their water. It is simply wrong and it violates the basic freedom of choice and lifestyle that our parents, grandparents and other ancestors fought for in Great Wars last century and before.

A battery would, of course, still occur where the
patient has given no consent at all (Malette v Shulman (1990) 67 DLR (4th)
321 (OCA)).
http://phorums.com.au/archive/index.p...
Municipal chemotherapists - most with no medical license - not only do not have everyone's consent - more and more people are ACTIVELY PROTESTING the mass forced medication.
It is prosecutorial discretion - in reality prosecutorial misconduct - that perpetuates the mass forced medication.

Maybe the councillors should drink the stuff for 12 months first before pushing the toxic poison onto the ratepayers.

Graham Demeny you are my hero. Thank you for standing up for us. I bought a reverse osmosis filter last month so that my two year old daughter at least doesn't have to drink this poison. It's bad enough that she has to bathe in it. My husband and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We hope that you have everything that you need this christmas. Please don't worry about what will happen, at least for the next week. Enjoy the season and good things will come your way. I haven't met you but you are a true friend to me and my family. I've seen your photo and will be on the lookout for you so be prepared to be hugged by a complete stranger! Glenda Mather you might just cop one too :)

I am disgusted by the ammount of ignorance and unwillingness to accept change that is being displayed by people replying to this story.
You need to remember that there are TWO sides to every peice of research that you read and there is NEVER going to be an unbiased study...it all depends on who is paying the bills. I am born and raised victorian who moved to queensland roughly 10 years ago. The FIRST dentist I saw up here asked me immediately if i was from down south because of the beautiful state of my teeth. Never had a filling and i am now 26 years old. Only ever had to have a scale and clean. My partner who is the same age as me and is born and bred here in Rockhampton has 3 teeth missing (which just died and fell out) and 6 fillings. He brushes the same as me, flosses, uses mouthwash twice a day and goes o the dentist for regular check ups and the only difference is...the fluoride.
Fluoride is a NATIONAL standard and Queensland have finally been told to step up and conform and good on them. I know i would much rather see my tax dollars going to roads or schools than to the dentistry of Queenslanders who flat out refuse to give something that may help them a go.
As for Graham Demney, the REASON that you would not have been accepted for Re-deployment is because (if you read your contract and council policy) There is no physical reason or religious reason that you cannot do your job. You simply dont "believe" in it, and i am in NO WAY knocking your beliefs...everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you believe in it strongly enough then good on you for doing what you did. But dont turn your decisions around on other people because you do not feel capable to perform your job anymore. Thats not really fair now is it?
When are you people going to accept progress...always looking for something to have a winge about!

@ F_orgotten in Ironpot
What about my best friend and I who grew up together on the same street? We had sleep overs all our lives and we both brushed our teeth every night and ate much the same foods. My friend has perfect teeth aside from one small filling. I have about 15 fillings, two teeth removed and a few root canals.
Ignorant is making a decision that will affect you, your children and your grandchildren based on one difference between you and your boyfriend. One example and you're an expert who's calling me ignorant and unwilling. I started researching fluoride four years ago with an open and willing mind. I knew nothing about it and needed information upon which I would make a decision. I've checked out every book on fluoride from the 4 libraries that I've had access to, I've read every page on every website that is for, against and neutral on the issue. My decision to remove the toxins that lace my daughters drinking water is not based upon ignorance and unwillingness I assure you.
If fluoride is so good for you why isn't there a section dedicated to it in health food shops so people can buy it if they want to? Why don't they add naturally occurring calcium fluoride to the water instead of sodium fluoride, a toxic waste product of the aluminium smelting process? Convenient isn't it? Why do they have to dress up in head-to-toe protective gear to handle it if it's so safe?
Instead of lacing the water supply with toxic chemicals, why not invest in restricting the amount of sugar-laden foods marketed squarely at children. Why don't you stand up and take responsibilitly for your own dental health instead of expecting the antidote for your lifestyle to be delivered to you on tap at a cost to us all. You might just find that the cure is worse than the disease. Just because something is the national standard doesn't mean it's good for you. You have the mindset of a sheep. I hope that, unlike you, my daughter learns to question, investigate and understand everything that goes into her body. Her future depends on it.

QUOTED by F_orgotten "I am disgusted by the ammount of ignorance and unwillingness to accept change that is being displayed by people replying to this story."
You are really putting your fine tuned ignorance on display. Many of the people here have actually formed opinions based on the many works (for and against) done by many researchers. The resounding opinion is that many people feel that forced medication (often by unqualified persons) is simply not good. There are countless examples of good and bad teeth with and without fluoride. The fact is fluoride makes very little difference to teeth and may have many unwanted side effect. We just can't get a proper answer. A council's duty of care should be to do no harm. Can any councillor truly say that not one person will be harmed by adding a poison into our drinking water.... I thought not.
