Weather forecasters predict the rain will hang around at least until the weekend.
Mike Marrinan from the Bureau of Meteorology in Rockhampton this morning said the monsoon trough had not stalled over Rockhampton, but had moved north to Mackay yesterday.
He said overnight the trough dropped back to Stanage Bay, but it would now continue to head north.
He said there would be some sunshine but mostly light rain in Rockhampton, probably into the early part of next week.
Overnight in Central Queensland there were heavy falls recorded in the Gemfields and the Shoalwater Bay areas.
Winds have eased considerably since yesterday and there is no strong wind or gale warnings current.
