DON’T pack away those umbrellas in Rockhampton just yet.

Weather forecasters predict the rain will hang around at least until the weekend.

Mike Marrinan from the Bureau of Meteorology in Rockhampton yesterday said the monsoon trough had not stalled over Rockhampton, but had moved north to Mackay on Tuesday.

By Tuesday night the trough had dropped back to Stanage Bay, but it was expected to continue to head north yesterday.

Mr Marrinan said there would be some sunshine but mostly light rain in Rockhampton through to the weekend and probably into the early part of next week.

The weatherzone website predicts showers over the next seven days with a thunderstorm on Sunday.

Winds have eased considerably since Tuesday and there are no strong wind or gale warnings current.

Rockhampton Regional Council has closed a number of roads in the region.

Closures in the Eastern areas include Apis Creek Road at Mackenzie River which is expected to be closed for about one week, as well as Waterpark Creek Road at Waterpark Creek and Bald Hills Road.

Closures in the Western areas include various locations in Bajool and Marmor, including Port Curtis Road near the Woolwash, North Langmorn Road, Old Capricorn Highway at Scrubby Creek, Port Alma Road, San Jose Road, Toonda to Port Alma, Six Mile Road and at Stanwell, Stanwell – Waroula Road at Dalma end.

Roope Road at the Causeway will be closed for at least two days.

Most of the roads in the former Fitzroy Shire Council area have some partial water over them. Although Main Roads have placed “water over road” signs on the Bruce Highway yesterday it remained open.

On the coast, beach access to Bangalee Beach has been closed for vehicles and all accesses to Kemp Beach are closed except for the very northern access at Rosslyn Bay.
