Stranded campers enjoy themselves at Carnarvon Gorge.

WITH storms and flooding causing losses of over 400 million dollars a year, it will pay to be prepared for storms this season. Early preparation may be the key.

RECENT tsunami warnings keep water and flood damage top of mind on Queensland’s coast, while unpredictable storms and floods again threaten the interior.
RISING floodwaters have left 12 holiday makers stuck at the Takarakka Bush Resort at Carnarvon Gorge, near Rolleston.
Chris Thomas, receptionist at the resort, said Carnarvon Creek had risen, cutting off all crossings from the area.
She said staff and guests were fine but had to wait until the waters receded.
“There’s not much that can be done,” she said.
“We had an Aussie barbecue last night as we’ve got a few international visitors here. The guests are having a great time.”
Ms Thomas said the resort had plenty of supplies and the main focus was on fixing the damage done to the roads at the first crossing.
Carnarvon Gorge has received 290mm of rain since Sunday.
