This marlin was caught at Fishing Creek. The two men fishing in the estaury system initially thought it was a shark.
A MARLIN has been caught in an estuary system north of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast.
The capture has astonished the fishing community as marlin inhabit the open ocean, usually offshore.
This fish was caught at Fishing Creek a week or two ago.
A couple of men fishing at the mouth of the creek saw what they thought was a shark take off and chase something.
They later found it thrashing around in the mangroves (it got caught in the shallows).
They couldn't get it to deep water to free it alive, so they took this photo.
It has come to light that some other anglers had previously been fishing at Flat Rock, off the Capricorn Coast, when they hooked and fought a marlin for about one-and-a-half-hours.
They lost it at the side of the boat, after attempting to gaff it.
It could be the same fish because it was reportedly around the same size.
The story has been confirmed by a very reputable source.
