MORE than 500 mourners gathered to say goodbye to Trinity Leigh Bates at City Coast Church this morning.

Pink balloons and butterflies were released at the end of the service as a family symbol of love and farewell to their eight-year-old.

Trinity's uncle spoke of a vivacious little girl who loved her mum, dad and sister.

The hour-long service was attended by Trinity's extended family and friends, community members and members of the police force who helped in the investigation of her murder.

A pearl coloured hearse carried Trinity's pink coffin covered with flowers to the crematorium where a private family service took place.

See tomorrow's NewsMail for full coverage of the funeral, plus a special 4-page commemorative liftout.
