Clawback to thriller win

GAMES were few, but there was action aplenty at Emu Park, and a highlight of the weekend was the club singles win by Dave Lee in a thriller.

In a game that see-sawed, Robin Sparke was away to a flier only for Lee to claw his way back into the contest and eventually get up, club spokesman Norm Bethell reported.

Bethell too was involved in an exciting club match when he skipped a team in the triples.

Eddie O’Donnell was skip of the opposition, a team containing father-and-son combination Wendon and Ken Ackery.

Bethell said the O’Donnell team took the game to them early and shot out to a 15-3 lead.

However, in his team Bethell had Clyde Jackson and first-year bowler Ray Burns, who started to get their game together and played some good bowls, the trio drawing level going into the final end.

Bethell said his team continued in good form to win the end and take the match by two shots.

The Emu Park club has begun a season of Open Mixed two-bowl triples.

The competition, worth $100 to the winner, is played each Sunday with all teams welcome to participate.

Last week the winner was skipped by Tony Smith.

This week Emu Park hosts club championship games on Saturday with another round of Open Mixed two-bowl triples.
