JEAN Beliveau has certainly taken the long road to get to Rockhampton.

Almost 10 years ago, Jean, a French Canadian from Montreal, set off on a mission to walk through six continents to spread the message of peace and non-violence for children.

He has walked more than 64,500km in 64 countries – the longest walk taken by a human without returning home.

It’s been a journey that’s taken more than 45 pairs of shoes and three heavy duty baby prams so far.

This weekend he will spend time in Yeppoon and Rockhampton at charity fundraising events.

Today he will be in the area next to the Yeppoon Surf Club from 1pm to 4pm.

Tomorrow he will be at Rockhampton’s Heritage Markets from 8am to midday.

People will be able to walk with Mr Beliveau and gold-coin donations will be collected and donated to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

Kites will be for sale, with 20% from each purchase to be donated to the foundation.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation protects children from violence and its devastating effects.

It cares for children who have experienced or witnessed violence and runs programs which prevent violence in the lives of children.

Jean said he was enjoying his walk through Central Queensland, even though it had been pretty wet.

“It’s beautiful,” Jean said.

He intends completing his 75,000km walk next year.
