Martyn at his best

AT 40kg there is not much of Lincoln Martyn, but when he steps in the ring he grows in stature.

On Saturday at Mackay, Martyn was at his brilliant best to dismantle Ayr boxer David Nahow.

“He fought absolutely brilliantly and really showed his talent,” PCYC trainer Des Upton said.

“When he’s 16 or 17 he will really be something.”

Martyn was a clear winner, collecting points with clean hits to the body of the unfortunate Nahow.

It was also a good night for Nat Hinchliffe who made his fight record 10 wins from 10n fights with a victory over Townsville’s Daniel Matherson.

“Nat was too smart for Daniel,” Upton said.

However, Upton believes Hinchliffe needs to train harder to retain his perfect record.

Kuang Kutah lost a controversial points decision to Mackay boxer Dylan Katt Haten.

Upton said Kutah appeared to win the first two rounds comfortably before being penalised for repeatedly using an open glove to hit his opponent. The judges gave a split-points decision to the home boxer.

The Pioneer Valley boxer was a bit too strong for Robert Walter in the 58kg division taking a unanimous points decision.

Brody Ahwong met a fellow Rockhampton fighter in Ricky Formosa of the Park Avenue club.

However, Ahwong posed too many questions for Formosa.

Mackay’s Tyson Best was too strong for a spirited Jay Barrett.

Lar Bartley is just 16 years and her inexperience was her undoing as she had her fight stopped in the second round against 22-year-old Samantha Forbes.

Upton said Bartley won the first round but then walked into a couple of big hits which caused a nose bleed.

Upton plans to take six boxers to Gatton this weekend.
