Coast aims to keep perfect record

IT is only round three of the Wesley Hall Cup Capricorn League but following play today there will only be two teams, at the most, with a perfect record.

Capricorn Coast will be favoured to be one of those sides as it will face Berserker on its home park at Yeppoon.

Both teams go into the game with an impressive record for the season, two wins from two matches, and both have good reason to be confident.

The Coast has scored 11 goals and conceded none but has played its matches against a struggling Cougars Reserve team and a Southside team that is going through a rebuilding phase.

Few would doubt the quality of players at Yeppoon with Dylan Kussrow, the rock in the centre of the defence and a midfield that is arguably the best around.

Against them is a Berserker side that has a few of the older players back on board.

Player/ coach Craig Porter gives the defence more composure than it had last season while the signing of Phil Dmitrieff and Scott Matheson from Southside and Roy Bob plus Simon Hogarth’s return give the Bears squad of 2010 a lot more depth.

The other team that might end the day with a 100% record is Frenchville.

John Ganley is seeing his team grow from the foundation it built last season and gained a solid result with a first-up win against Parkana.

Tonight the opposition is the CQ Wildcats (Cougars Reserves) and it should be a fascinating battle.

In Clayton Rowland and Tim Hickey Frenchville has two of the best players in local competition.

This should be a very interesting midfield contest as the four outfield players from the Cougars main squad are all midfielders.

Michael Cay, Martyn Davis and Eduardo are all on the verge of selection for the Cougars QSL side while Justin McMullen plays tonight as Bryce Ruthven is unavailable.

The other Cougar selected for the fixture is under-19 keeper Evan Wilkinson who knows all about Ryan Park as a Frenchville player in the club’s 2009 squad.

Bluebirds plays its match with Central at Jardine Park and should be too strong for a Gladstone team that rarely travels well. Clinton also travel to Jardine Park and Southside will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to win this one.

The other match has Parkana hosting Yaralla.
