Rockhampton Brothers’ Sam Granville makes a break in his side’s 106-0 victory against Valleys at Victoria Park. Granville scored two tries.
ROCKHAMPTON Brothers have given Valleys a footballing lesson in their second round Challenge Cup match on Saturday night.
The Brethren cracked the century against the extended league returnees Gladstone Valleys, winning 106-0 at Victoria Park. Joe Collins-Soo scored six tries in the romp, while Cooper Nobbs added three and Sam Granville another two.
Brothers’ coach John Jenkins said the win was a matter of nailing the fundamentals.
“We got the simple things right and stuck to our game plan,” he said.
Jenkins said his side managed to throw the ball around.
“We completed a lot of sets, I think we only dropped three balls in the first half,” he said.
“We really came to play, and it rained all night, so to throw it around is a good sign.”
The Brothers coach was pleased with the domination down the right wing with Gerard Parle, Sam Granville and Joe Collins-Soo in dominating form, while on the other side Cooper Nobbs was also strong. “We stuck to our guns and we did what we’ve been working on in practice. It was a good team effort.”
In tough conditions at Yeppoon, Tannum Sands Seagulls overcame the home side four tries to three.
Yeppoon coach John Harbin said the game was a tight defensive match, but not really one for the supporters. “It was a real ding-dong of a game, with some really spot-on defence from both sides,” he said. “Although it wasn’t a spectacular game, there were two committed sides whose defence was both spot on. There were a few heavy hits and it was not a game for the backs.”
James Munns and Matt Oakes scored tries for the Yeppoon side.
Fitzroys Gracemere were unable to make it two wins on the trot, going down 56-10 at Marley Brown Oval yesterday.
