Threat to slit throat in robbery

A MAN was held at knifepoint and told his throat would be slit if he didn’t reveal where the cash was, a Rockhampton court heard last week.

Benjamin Dwayne Johnson, accused of robbing a Rockhampton home, stood at the bedroom door in an attempt to keep the man’s girlfriend in the room while one of his co-offenders demanded cash and drugs.

Police Prosecutor Barbara Barton said Johnson and two other offenders went around the back of the Farm Street house just after midnight on March 5.

“They kicked open the locked back door and got in.”

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday the couple was asleep at the time.

Ms Barton said one of the co-offenders demanded access to a safe.

She said the woman offered money from her purse and $200 was taken.

The court heard there was no evidence Johnson was involved with the more serious side of the attack.

Johnson has been charged with entering a dwelling with intent at night and in company and robbery in company.

Defence lawyer Peter Sorensen said Johnson was at the bedroom door when the woman forced her way past him.

Mr Sorensen said Johnson had little involvement in the crime.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy granted bail providing Johnson had no contact with the co-accused or the complainant.

Co-offender Brenton Raymond Guy has also been charged and late last week the main perpetrator had not yet been charged.

The matter has been adjourned to 2pm on May 12 for a committal mention.
